For those of you who have stayed with us before, you know there are some incredible Natchez dining opportunities available. However, our Natchez Foodie Tour 2019 is the most unique (and delicious) tour of downtown Natchez and is an exclusive opportunity for guests of Devereaux Shields House. For a limited time, experience the best combination of local flavors, rich history, and vibrant atmosphere centered in the heart of Main Street Natchez – the oldest Main Street along the Mississippi River. Read on to learn more about the stops, and our suggested itinerary, along your tour.
Stop #1: King’s Tavern
Featuring: Beverage & appetizer + rum distillery tour!
Dating back to 1789, this is the oldest permanent building in the Mississippi Territory and is also the starting (or ending) point of the infamous Natchez Trace, a 444-mile National Highway that started out as a buffalo migratory trail. The venue is rustic, quaint, and haunted with a rich in history as a tavern, overnight lodging, and pony express stop. Owned by the Charbonneau Family, King’s Tavern is home to their signature Charbonneau Rum, which is often enjoyed in front of their magnificent fireplace. Chef Regina Charbonneau has taken her culinary talents around the globe, making her name and her cooking internationally known. She ultimately decided to bring her craft back to her hometown to raise her family, and we are so fortunate to have this restaurant as a Natchez staple.
Stop #2: Pearl Street Pasta
Featuring: Appetizer tapas & wine/beer!
A Natchez staple for many years, Pearl Street Pasta is a must. The building has undergone major renovations that offer a unique dining experience, complete with a martini bar! Owned and operated by John and Malan Parks, they share their passion for the culinary arts together. Both have been involved in the Natchez hospitality industry for years and operate successful businesses across the Miss-Lou, including Magnolia Grill, located on the river in Natchez’s Under-the-Hill District.
Stop #3: Rolling River Bistro
Featuring: Variety of food options, wine/beer, and live music!
Once surrounded by the hustle and bustle of horse carriages and electric trolleys, this building dates back to 1879. More than its history, Rolling River Bistro’s food is famous here. The venue offers live music six nights a week and Monday nights feature the legendary YZ Ealey, Natchez’s very own MS Blues Marker legend. Owners Rene’ Adams and Michael Gore, along with their award-winning staff, are passionate about sharing the best that Mississippi has to offer: live local music and signature Natchez cuisine.
Stop #4: Cotton Alley Cafe
Featuring: Seared tuna dish & wine/beer or dessert + coffee!
A delightfully decorated café with an international flair, this is a favorite amongst our guests. Cotton Alley Cafe is owned and operated by Guy Bass and David Browning. They have passionately run restaurants in Natchez for years, always offering rewarding culinary experiences in a unique dining atmosphere. Cotton Alley could be your final stop on your Main Street tour. Believe us, you’ll want to save room for dessert!
