Why You Should Visit Natchez
What makes Natchez so special?
- Natchez is the oldest settlement on the Mississippi River making it a desirable destination for history and culture lovers.
- A big part of the appeal is that it is home to the largest collection of Antebellum Homes in the US! Our Miss Lou package is the best way to see some of these homes and to soak up some legendary southern hospitality as you spend the week at Devereaux Shields House and two other local Inns!
- Natchez was also featured as a bucket list item in the book 1000 Places To See Before You Die and it is on the Top 10 Southern Romantic Places List! Enjoy the breathtaking views of the Mississippi River or the scenic landscape along the Natchez Trace National Scenic Byway that begins in Natchez.

Welcome Center
Once you arrive in Natchez we recommend visiting the Welcome Center to receive some information and free refreshments! They offer a friendly help desk as well as innovative and informational displays. “Our Natchez” a 20-minute video about Natchez and the surrounding area can also be viewed here in their movie-style theatre! Before you leave be sure to pop into the gift shop to pick up some souvenirs.
Tour Natchez Your Way
Natchez offers many different types of tours to see the town and surrounding areas. Our Natchez Trails and Walking Tours are perfect for today’s world as they provide you with a self-guided opportunity to walk through Natchez’s history. For more traditional tours, we recommend the Hop-On Hop-Off guided open tour bus of the city or the Downtown Karla Brown guided van tour of the city and region. For the most historically accurate tour, try the Open-Air Cart tour of the city or check out the always romantic and adventurous Old Southern Horse-Drawn Carriage tour of downtown. To see some of Natchez’s history, we recommend two Miss Lou Tours! The Miss Lou Heritage tour displays black history in the city of Natchez and the surrounding region. We also offer the Miss Lou Tour outdoor adventures in the local area!
Freedom of the Road
There are two historic roads that run through Natchez featuring beautiful scenery and trails! The Natchez Trace National Scenic Byway is one of only twenty-nine scenic byways in the United States. It begins in Natchez and runs for 444 miles! The Mississippi Great River Road, a National Scenic Byway, is another road that runs through Natchez that provides a delightful journey through Mississippi’s history worthy of a trip. Often referred to as “Blues Alley,” Highway 61 connects you south from Memphis through the Mississippi Delta to Natchez.
