Classic Proposal
St. Mary’s Basilica
Nothing says “Going to the Church” like actually going to church and asking for her (or his) hand in marriage. Dating back to 1842, Saint Mary’s Basilica is a site to see in Natchez, either in the daylight showing off the stained glass colors or under a romantic starlit night’s sky. If you’re planning on the former, this stunning historic vestibule is open daily from 9am to 4pm. For the latter, perhaps take a stroll after a most romantic dinner out with your spouse-to-be and pop the question outside next to the St. Mary’s iconic iron fence.
Picturesque Proposal
City Gazebo Overlooking the Mississippi River
When it comes to picturesque proposals, there are many options you can explore for where to pop the question in Natchez. Our City Gazebo offers a magnificent view of the Mississippi River from our 200-ft high Bluff any time of year. The Gazebo offers a beautiful framed photo opportunity while still being a private moment for the two of you. Capture the moment yourself or with a local photographer.
Historic Antebellum Proposal
Dunleith or Monmouth Historic Inns & Restaurants
Natchez is blessed with two spectacular Historic Antebellum Inns, 1856 Dunleith and 1818 Monmouth. They both offer fine environs for strolling and dining experiences most suitable for your proposal memories.
Designed as a residence in 1856, Dunleith Historic Inn features elegant verandas, an award winning restaurant, a swimming pool, beautiful lush grounds, and brick patio with fountain. The Castle Restaurant located in Dunleith’s original carriage house and stables was built in the 1790s! This 18th century brick structure was home to fine carriages and purebred thoroughbreds. Built to resemble a castle, it is an architectural gem that provides a comfortable dining atmosphere. Enjoy delectable southern cuisine such as crab cakes and mouth-watering bread pudding prepared by Chef Rose Jones and her talented staff.
Monmouth was built in 1818 and sits on a commanding knoll. Your first sight is breathtaking, as the four large columns supporting the two-story galleries gives you a powerful interpretation of the architectural style. It’s also beautifully decorated for the Christmas holidays should you decide to make it a festive proposal. The furnishings and decor are spectacular beyond description. We recommend taking the tour as the tour guide is outstanding and makes your visit all the more interesting. The surrounding gardens, complete with a pond, fountains, and perfectly manicured flowers and trees, are definitely worth a visit, and could be the perfect spot for you to declare your eternal love. At Monmouth’s Restaurant 1818 you will dine in what was originally the Men’s and Ladies’ Parlors of the Main House. These two parlors are adorned with authentic period crystal gasoliers. These impressive reproduction chandeliers and wall sconces were custom made for Monmouth by the artisans at Waterford Crystal in Ireland. This room exemplifies the elegant dining experience which has been customary since the days of John and Eliza Quitman.
